Hi! I’m Chazen. Most people call me Chaz. I’m an artist and late bloomer. I quit my corporate job 2 years ago because I lowkey hated it for 10 years, but was too scared to follow my heart. Since then, I have been taking continual leaps off a series of cliffs of possibility to see what happens. I am plenty terrified and struggle with self-doubt, but life is short. And I can sense the possibility of something else, something real.
What is Subtle Lessons?
Subtle Lessons began as my personal practice in vulnerability. I was guided to launch this newsletter for the vital lessons it will teach me. Launched on my 37th birthday in June 2023, in a short time, it’s already wrecked my life—in the best way. Here I share my musings, artwork, and life lessons as I heal wounds that manifest as patterns of codependency and perfectionism. If you are on a similar journey of healing and remembering Yourself, I’d love your company.

Subtle Lessons is a creative space for You. It’s about more than just being vulnerable. It’s about being yourself. Fully yourself. Without shame. Without concession. It’s an opportunity to be as human as you can be. No pretense. No limitation. You’ve spent your entire your life pretending to be happy, responsible, strong, good, and agreeable. When on the inside you were tortured, resentful, overwhelmed, angry, and disappointed. Subtle Lessons is a place for you to be a human being—messy, complex, contradictory, imperfect, neurotic and ever-changing. It is a required part of artistry, self-acceptance. The ability to share the complexity of what is inside of you in word, color, or frequency is your gift. You are here to be yourself. Be.
